A coordination request message is exchanged from an access point to a central control unit (FIG. 2(a)) or among peer access points (FIG. 2(b)) and may carry any, some, or all the information received and/or inferred by a sensing signal or other uplink signals. In the reverse communication step, the central control unit or a peer access point, respectively, transmit a coordination control message. The recipient of a coordination control message, however, is not necessarily the same access point that transmitted a coordination request message. The coordination control message carries control information and specific tasks for the recipient access point, e.g. at least on/off switching commands, and/or trigger the transmission of a sensing signal from a mobile station in its proximity.
