The presence of an indicator of the used transmission power enables the receiver access point to estimate the propagation loss from the transmitter. The benefit of transmitting a user identity is to associate the received signal and information therein to a specific user. The identity could be: temporary or permanent, valid for the whole network or a group of access points, assigned by the network or available to the user prior accessing to the network.

According to one embodiment, each sequence within the set of predefined signal sequences associated to a sensing signal is mapped to one combination of the information bits forming the signal data fields. With a sensing signal comprising
