As noted above, the MBAN priority of an MBAN 62 of the medical institution 50 can be automatically updated during the whole care cycle. Specifically, a CDS engine 94, 110 can be activated to track and/or predict patient acuity level based on real-time monitoring data and other patient data (e.g., EMR, lab report, etc.). The CDS engine 94, 110 for the MBAN 62 can be local to the MBAN 62 (e.g., implemented by the corresponding hub device 60) or remote from the MBAN 62 (e.g., implemented by the patient monitoring system 80). The CDS engine 94, 110 continuously generates a patient acuity score based on patient health status and maps the score to an MBAN priority level for the MBAN 62. When the MBAN priority level of the MBAN 62 changes, or the MBAN channel access rules of for the MBAN priority level change, the hub device 60 of the MBAN 62 updates its candidate channel set (i.e., its internal set of channels that can be used for MBAN operations).
