Referring to FIG. 1, the image display apparatus 100 may display a 360° image. According to an exemplary embodiment, the 360° image may have an angle of view of 360°. For example, the 360° image may be generated based on a plurality of images captured in a 360° direction by using a camera. Herein, the captured plurality of images may be mapped to a sphere, and points of contact of the mapped images may be connected (stitched) to generate a sphere-format 360° image. In addition, the sphere-format 360° image may be converted into a planar-format 360° image 10 as shown in FIG. 1 so that the planar-format 360° image 10 may be transmitted to another device or stored. In this case, according to an exemplary embodiment, the planar-format 360° image 10 may be distorted.
According to an exemplary embodiment, the image display apparatus 100 may receive the planar-format 360° image 10 from an external device, or store the planar-format 360° image 10. In addition, the image display apparatus 100 may decode the planar-format 360° image 10 that has been received from the external device or is stored.
