In common practice, network management system 10 and network devices 14 are centrally maintained by an IT group of the enterprise. Administrators 12 interact with network management system 10 to remotely monitor and configure network devices 14. For example, administrators 12 may receive alerts from network management system 10 regarding any of network devices 14, view configuration data of network devices 14, modify the configurations data of network devices 14, add new network devices to enterprise network 6, remove existing network devices from enterprise network 6, or otherwise manipulate the enterprise network 6 and network devices therein. Although described with respect to an enterprise network, the techniques of this disclosure are applicable to other network types, public and private, including LANs, VLANs, VPNs, and the like.
