The SUI of an embodiment presents information to a user in a format that enables the rapid access and use of the data, in other words, a ‘glanceable’ user interface. In accordance with the embodiments herein, numerous presentation methods are described below, but the embodiment is not so limited. A presentation format of the SUI includes an interactive Timeline that presents history and state information in a graphical format. Another presentation format of the SUI includes a widget-based Slideshow timeline interface for presenting content on a home touchscreen. Yet another presentation format of the SUI includes a graphical interface for managing schedules, setpoints, and controls for lighting and thermostats and general energy usage from a security touchscreen or remote interface. Each of these presentation formats or methods of the SUI is described in detail below.
Embodiments of the SUI include a timeline user interface. The timeline user interface of an embodiment presents sensor state and/or history in a variable-length timeline. In this embodiment the timeline may be zoomed in/out with respect to time frame (e.g., the timescale may be dynamically changed between, for example, a 1 hour view, a 1 day view, and a 1 week view). In an embodiment on a dynamic touchscreen environment (e.g., the iPhone platform) this is accomplished by ‘pinching’ two fingers in to zoom in on time (i.e., cover a shorter period of time) or ‘pinch out’ to zoom out in time. In this embodiment, the timeline time window (i.e., the start and end points of the timeline) may also be altered by ‘swiping’ the timeline with a finger on the touchscreen. Other embodiments of dynamically changing the timeline include buttons to satisfy these functions, scrollbars to change the time window, and/or a magnifying slider that changes the ‘zoom factor’ of the time window.
