The messaging component 840 may be operative to receive a group member addition request from a user messaging interface. Alternatively, the messaging component 840 may receive a group member addition notification from the messaging system 750. A group member addition request or a group member addition notification may correspond to an additional recipient device to be added to the broadcast group. As received from a user messaging interface, a group member addition request may comprise a request from the user of the sender device 820 to include another user's device in the broadcast group. As received from the messaging system 750, a group member addition notification may comprise a request from a user of another device in the broadcast group to include another user's device in the broadcast group.
The messaging component 840 may be operative to generate an additional member broadcast initiation package, which may be similar to the broadcast initiation package. The additional member broadcast initiation package may contain the sender broadcast encryption key 875. Where encryption key progression is used, the sender broadcast encryption key 875 may be included by including the iteration of the sender broadcast encryption key 875 reached at that point in the encryption key progression. As such, the additional member of the broadcast group may be able to read any message included in the additional member broadcast initiation package and any future message sent to the broadcast group, but not be able to retroactively decrypt previous messages sent to the broadcast group and encrypted with previous iterations of the sender broadcast encryption key 875.
