A set of operations is performed to cause a resource accessible to a first set of entities to also be accessible to a member of a second set of entities, where the set of operations, as a result of being executed, causes a processor to create a project to associate with a set of resources, associate a policy that controls access to the set of resources with the projects, associate the resource with the set of resources of the project, and associate the member of the second set of entities with the project. A request is obtained from the member of the second set of entities to access the resource. The member of the second set of entities is determine to be authorized to access the resource based on the policy. The member of the second set of entities is allowed to obtain access to the resource.

The resource container service 306 may receive the API request 330, create the specified resource container, and store the metadata regarding the created resource container in the platform data store 312. The resource container service 306 may create the resource container by creating a data structure and associating computing resources with the resource container. The resource container service 306 may also generate metadata as part of creating the resource container. The metadata may include various information regarding the created resource container, such as identifying information, a URN, characteristics of the resource container, size, location, and/or variations thereof. The resource container service 306 may store the URN of the created resource container, which may be the value of the variable ProjectPhobosURN, in the platform data store 312. In an embodiment, the resource container service 306, following the receipt of the API request 330, creates a resource container designated as “ProjectPhobos” that has the URN “ProjectPhobosURN:urn:ws:zone1123:resourcecontainer/ProjectPhobos,” which may be represented by ProjectPhobosURN in the illustrative example shown in FIG. 3, and stores the URN in the platform data store 312.
