From a UE perspective, the UE performs b1 BDs assuming a first EPDCCH starting position configured by higher layers, and performs b2 additional BDs assuming an alternative EPDCCH starting position in a subframe. (Here b1 and b2 are integers.) The UE may perform the additional b2 BDs only if the first b1 BDs are not successful. The alternative EPDDCH starting position in a subframe may be fixed (e.g., the s6 symbol position of first slot of each subframe), or it may be configured via RRC.
In another embodiment, the UE performs b1 BDs assuming EPDCCH is contained within the 1st slot, performs b2 additional BDs assuming EPDCCH is contained within the 1st and 2nd slot, and b3 BDs for EPDCCH contained within only 2nd slot. (Here b1, b2 and b3 are each integers.) This is useful for cases where the UE does not know if the subframe with truncation has a truncated portion at the beginning or the end of the subframe, i.e., the eNB has the flexibility to schedule the UE in 1st slot only, 2nd slot only or 1st and 2nd slot together.
