In stand-alone mode, a wireless device may have a connection to a 5G core. For example, as illustrated by FIG. 10A, a wireless device may be supported by connection 1010 that includes a control plane connection to a 5G core 1004 via a gNB 906 and a user plane connection allowing data transport through the gNB 906 via the 5G core 1004. Alternatively, as illustrated by FIG. 10B, a wireless device may be supported by the connection 1010 and a connection 1030. The connection 1030 may include a user plane connection allowing data transport through an eNB 904. Further, connection 1034 between eNB 904 and gNB 906 may support both data exchange (e.g., via the user plane) and control signaling (e.g., via the control plane) between the base stations. As another alternative, as illustrated by FIG. 10C, a wireless device may be supported by the connection 1010 and a connection 1036. The connection 1032 may include a user plane connection allowing data transport through an gNB 916. Further, connection 1036 between gNB 906 and gNB 916 may support both data exchange (e.g., via the user plane) and control signaling (e.g., via the control plane) between the base stations.
