The invention claimed is:1. A method for a wireless device in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the method comprising:transmitting from the wireless device to the WLAN a request for network information identifying one or more networks, the request for network information being in response to receiving a network interworking indicator at the wireless device in a beacon frame broadcast by the WLAN, the network interworking indicator indicating support of a capability of the WLAN to communicate information relating to a cellular network; andreceiving the network information in response to the request for network information,wherein the network information is provided in a field of a generic container.2. The method of claim 1, wherein the generic container is formatted in accordance with at least one of a technology, a standards organization, or a protocol.3. The method of claim 1, wherein the generic container further includes a length field associated with a data length of the field.4. The method of claim 1, wherein a format of the generic container is configured according to a standard associated with a type of network.5. The method of claim 1, wherein the field includes the network information specified in accordance with a standards organization.6. The method of claim 1, wherein the generic container further includes a version field which identifies a version of the generic container.7. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more networks identified by the network information include at least one 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network.8. The method of claim 1, wherein the network information comprises a Mobile Network Code (MNC) and Mobile Country Code (MCC) which identifies at least one of the one or more networks.9. A wireless device, comprising:a processor configured to:transmit from a wireless device to the wireless local area network (WLAN) a request for network information identifying one or more networks, the request for network information being in response to receiving a network interworking indicator comprised in a beacon frame broadcast by the WLAN, the network interworking indicator indicating support of a capability of the WLAN to communicate network information relating to a cellular network to the wireless device; andreceive the network information in response to the request for network information, wherein the network information is provided in a field of a generic container.10. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein the generic container is formatted in accordance with at least one of a technology, a standards organization, or a protocol.11. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein a format of the generic container is configured according to a standard associated with a type of network.12. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein the one or more networks identified by the network information include at least one 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network.13. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein the field includes the network information specified in accordance with a standards organization.14. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein the generic container further includes a version field which identifies a version of the generic container.15. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein the generic container further includes a length field associated with a data length of the field.16. The wireless device of claim 9, wherein the network information comprises a Mobile Network Code (MNC) and Mobile Country Code (MCC) which identifies at least one of the one or more networks.17. A method in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the method comprising:after broadcasting a network interworking indicator comprised in a beacon frame to at least a wireless device, receiving, from the wireless device, a request message requesting network information which identifies one or more networks, the network interworking indicator indicating support of a capability of the WLAN to communicate network information relating to a cellular network; andin response to the request message, causing the network information to be sent in a field of a generic container for transmission to the wireless device.18. The method of claim 17, wherein the generic container is formatted in accordance with at least one of a technology, a standards organization, or a protocol.19. The method of claim 17, wherein a format of the generic container is configured according to a standard associated with a type of network.20. The method of claim 17, wherein the generic container further includes a length field associated with a data length of the field.21. The method of claim 17, wherein the generic container includes a version field which identifies a version of the generic container.22. The method of claim 17, wherein the field includes the network information specified in accordance with a standards organization.23. The method of claim 17, wherein the one or more networks identified by the network information include at least one 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network.24. The method of claim 17, wherein the network information comprises a Mobile Network Code (MNC) and Mobile Country Code (MCC) which identifies at least one of the one or more networks.25. A wireless local area network (WLAN) comprising:a processor configured to:after broadcasting a network interworking indicator comprised in a beacon frame to a wireless device, receive a request message from the wireless device requesting network information which identifies one or more networks, the network interworking indicator indicating support of a capability of the WLAN to communicate network information relating to a cellular network; andin response to the request message, causing the network information to be sent in a field of a generic container for transmission to the wireless.26. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein the generic container is formatted in accordance with at least one of: a technology, a standards organization, or a protocol.27. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein a format of the generic container is configured according to a standard associated with a type of network.28. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein the generic container further includes a length field associated with a data length of the field.29. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein the generic container further includes a version field which identifies a version of the generic container.30. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein the field includes the network information specified in accordance with a standards organization.31. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein the one or more networks identified by the network information include at least one 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network.32. The WLAN of claim 25, wherein the network information comprises a Mobile Network Code (MNC) and Mobile Country Code (MCC) which identifies at least one of the one or more networks.
