A text communication is received from a telephone number of a sender. The text communication is directed to a recipient. A determination is made as to whether to challenge the sender. Responsive to determining to challenge the sender, a challenge is transmitted to the sender. A determination is made as to whether to route the text communication to the recipient based on whether a successful response to the challenge is received from the sender.

At 708, the workflow 700 determines whether the telephone number of the communication is in the contact list of the recipient and whether the communication is verified. If so, the workflow 700 proceeds to 706; otherwise, the workflow 700 proceeds to 710. At 710, it is determined whether the telephone number of the communication is included in a global white list, such as the global white list 418 of FIG. 4. If so, in an implementation (not shown), the workflow 700 may proceed to 706; otherwise, the technique proceeds to 714. In another implementation (as shown), and as described above, if the telephone number of the communication is included in the global white list, then, at 712, the workflow 700 determines whether the telephone number of the communication meets an added count criterion. The added count criterion may be that the telephone number was added a minimum number of times to the global white list, as described above. If the telephone number of the communication meets the added count criterion, then the workflow 700 proceeds to 706; otherwise, the workflow 700 proceeds to 714.

At 714, the workflow 700 determines whether the communication includes an indicium of the recipient. In an example, the indicium of the recipient can be a routing permission code. However, other indicia of the recipient are possible, as described above. If the communication includes an indicium of the recipient, the workflow 700 proceeds to 706; otherwise, the workflow 700 proceeds to 716.
