A description will now be given of a second embodiment of the disclosure. The first embodiment has discussed selecting control of a focus detecting calculation area (calculation area) in a case where an object (image stabilizing area) for which image stabilization is performed and an object (focus detecting area) for focus detection are different. This embodiment will discuss selecting control of a calculation area, with reference to FIGS. 10A and 10B, in a case where an image stabilizing area and a focus detecting area are correlated with each other. FIGS. 10A and 10B explain a focus detecting calculation area based on the relationship between the image stabilizing area and the focus detecting area. In FIGS. 10A and 10B, an alternate long and short dash line indicates an image stabilizing area, a dotted line indicates a focus detecting area, and a calculation area is indicated by an enlarged gray area on the right side of each figure.
