In FIG. 10A, an image stabilizing area 1001a is a face and a focus detecting area 1002a is an eye. In this case, even if the focus detecting area 1002a goes out of the eye area due to camera shake and object blur, it can be inferred that the peripheral area is at the same distance and this embodiment performs control such that the calculation area 1003a is as wide as or wider than the focus detecting area 1002a. This embodiment discusses the relationship between a human face and an eye, but the disclosure is not limited to this embodiment. For example, the above relationship is similarly applicable to a case where the image stabilization target area is a vehicle and an area for focus detecting calculation is a person riding the vehicle. In other words, this control is performed in a case where an area that does not specify the entire angle of view is set to an image stabilizing area and part of it is set to a focus detection object position.
